What next to a Torch Coral

Can you put either Frogspawn or a Hammer near to a Torch, or a they best left with lots of space? Another question is that I would like to start keeping some SPS but I have softies and LPS, will there a be a bit of conflict? Thanks in advance.

What next to a Torch Coral

    Hi ziggy

Frogspawns and Hammers fine - any of these near a torch is a big no no! as the torch is very aggressive towards those species.

i am going to place a hammer between two frogspawns and they look great.

With SPS you need to look at your stability and what softies you have as some are quite toxic to stony corals. For instance the leather coral which is often called the devils finger is highly toxic to stony corals.

A good starter SPS would be a pavona but these are aggressive corals with long sweepers but they are very hardy and are ideal starter SPS corals.

I have a brown/orange pavona and I have access to some green pavona frags so if you would like to have some of these then please let me know.

Other SPS to start with would also be something like montipora - drab plating species would be a good start.

However people are going into LPS in abig way and are moving away from SPS so it may be an idea to look at other LPS corals etc.

Thanks Jon. I have a few options open at the mo. one of them is as you've already said - chop up the Sarcho! I still have quite a few frags of toadstools still to get rid of though (ebay soon). If I do get rid of it I would like to put a Hammer and or Frogspawn in it's place, they would be a bit higher than the Torch (picture on for Softies for sale). I'm not 100% about SPS as I know you have to be alot more watchful of your param's.
    Thanks, S.<^EDIT^>

    Thats the thing with SPS

there is no rush to get there mind I prefer the other corals anyway. I would suggest having one of our pavona and see how you get on.

Sps don't really mix with either softies or lps.The problem isn't toxin release from the softies because you can remove these with skimming and carbon.Sps need different conditions to thrive.
The conditions for keeping both softies and lps are moderate flow and medium lighting such as T5s or aquabeam leds. That's why they do ok together.
Conditions for sps are different, really fast flow and MH lights.
The torch coral will extend out.As a general rule the sweepers, which appear after lights out, stretch out 3x longer than the daytime tenticles.Like Cranners said,if it touches a finger leather the torch will be a goner because the finger will release toxins that kill torch corals.

Thanks for you help, I've knocked the SPS idea on the head, I do have enough flow but I want to keep things fairly simple. I would like to try and swap the Torch for a Hammer or Frogspawn.
